4.2kW system in Chichester

This landlord wanted to have solar on the roof of their rented property to reduce the tenants energy bills. We fitted a PV system and a Solis inverter that would provide an annual generation of around 4700kWh. We also fitted an EV charger to futureproof the house, ready for tenants with electric vehicles.   System

Making Solar Power Work For Your Property

As the world shifts towards sustainable energy usage, solar PV panels have emerged as a leading contender in the renewable energy landscape. One of the key components of residential solar panels is the solar battery storage systems that can be used in conjunction with them. These battery systems store excess energy generated during the day for use during periods of low or no sunlight, making them a great option if you’re looking to take advantage of off-peak tariffs offered by many utility providers.

In addition to the shift towards a more sustainable electricity generation solution, electric vehicles will soon become the norm in the transport industry. Driving an electric car that is charged by an EV charging point powered by your solar panels is an excellent way to ensure your transportation is both cost-efficient and emissions-free. Many EV owners think of installing solar panels as pre-buying their fuel for the next few years – at a cost that is very quickly repaid!

Our Solar Panel Installation Process

We’ve been trusted for domestic solar panel installations since 2010 and in that time, our team have developed industry-leading knowledge and experience what makes a residential solar project successful. Unlike one-size-fits-all approaches, we design efficient solar panels tailored to each customer’s specific energy needs and property layout. This bespoke service ensures maximum power output, cost savings, clean energy solutions, and customer satisfaction, setting us apart from other solar panel installation companies working in the domestic sector.

What to Expect From Solar PV Panels

Reduce Energy Bills

With energy costs sky rocketing in the last few years, having solar panels installed on your home means you can say goodbye to the issue of costly electricity rates. This shift not only lowers energy bills but also allows you to plan for the future.

Extra Income with SEG

The Smart Export Guarantee is a government initiative introduced in January 2020 to replace the previous Feed-in Tariff scheme. Under the SEG, homeowners with solar panel systems can sell excess electricity they generate back to the grid.

Increase Property Value

Generally, solar panels are seen as a value-adding feature for you home in the UK property market, making properties more appealing and potentially leading to a higher resale value if you decide to sell up in the coming years.

Did You Know?

More than 1.3 million UK homes have solar panel installations, according to the latest MCS data – meaning 4.1% of the 29 million homes in the UK are generating electricity from solar panels.

Solar Products

Explore our range of solar products, carefully sourced from reliable manufacturers and fully certified to MCS standards, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. From advanced solar panels that harness sunlight, to cutting-edge battery storage systems, we provide practical solutions that lower costs and promote sustainability.

Solar Panel Maintenance

Solar PV systems are very reliable, but planned solar maintenance is essential to ensure continued high output efficiency. Many solar systems in the UK have been installed for several years now, some for over 5 years. Whilst most maybe running well, many owners don’t check their systems performance regularly and wouldn’t know if it was performing well or not.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need planning permission for domestic solar panels?

Most of the time the answer is no. However, if your home is in a protected area such as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or a National Park such as the South Downs, then you may need planning permission for solar, but not always. We can advise you on this. Some authorities will ask that you have a bat or bird survey first or that your system meets certain aesthetic criteria such as it being an ‘in-roof’ system where the panels sit flush with the roof tiles. We can work with your needs and design a system that meets the necessary criteria.

How much electricity do solar PV systems generate?

An optimally orientated, un-shaded 1kWp array will, each year, generate approx 850kWh (units) of electricity.

Where can I place my solar PV panels?

Most domestic solar panels can be mounted in a range of locations, from a south facing roof to the ground and even bespoke frames. We install on a range of roof types, including flat roofs. Ground mounted systems use ballast or specially designed mounting frames. Solar panels are best if they are south facing, but east and west facing roofs are are suitable, although output will be slightly less. A roof pitch of between 10 and 50 degrees is best and preferably with little or no shade. If shade cannot be avoided then we can include optimisers to reduce the shading impact.

Is it still worth installing solar panels on my property without the Feed-in Tariff?

Yes, despite the phase-out of the Government Feed-in Tariff, the installation of solar panels has seen a significant increase in recent years. This surge is attributed to the declining costs of solar technology and a heightened understanding of its environmental and economic benefits over time. With substantial reductions in production costs, improved panel efficiency, and the current instability in the energy market, investing in solar panels for your home is an excellent decision right now.

How do I know if I need a battery?

If you have a medium to high consumption of energy, it is likely that a battery alongside your solar will be beneficial. We use our software to calculate how much of the battery you will use with your property’s consumption and can compare what your usage would be with and without a battery. You can then decide which system will work best for you and whether you want to store energy.

Where is the battery installed?

Most batteries that we install are rated as IP65, meaning they can be installed outdoors. However they should have a canopy over them to protect them from the elements. They can also be installed inside your property on a wall. They ideally need 300mm clearance around them for ventilation and cooling as well as access for any future maintenance. Dimensions of the batteries can be found on the datasheets.

How are solar panels fixed to my roof? Will they cause damage?

Typically, solar panels are set up on a rail system that’s securely fixed to the roof. This solar PV system is engineered to preserve the structural integrity and strength of your roof, ensuring it remains watertight and free from damage. Our solar panel installer will be able to provide further information on how they are fixed.

How do solar PV cells work?

Photovoltaic (PV) cells convert radiation from the sun into electricity.  A typical PV cell consists of a wafer of semi-conducting material, usually silicon, manufactured with two electrically different layers.  When sunlight hits the cell it excites the electrons within the silicon, creating an electric field across the layers and causing a flow of electricity.

What is an inverter?

An inverter is an essential part of a solar panel system. It is responsible for taking the electricity produced by the solar panels in the form of AC current, and converting it into DC current, ready to be used by the property. They come in different sizes to suit the number of solar panels and are usually mounted on a wall.
